Introduction to Baoding

保定西倚巍巍太行山，东抱华北明珠白洋淀，坐拥千里沃野华北大平原，位于中国首都北京的西南方向，交通发达便捷，距离外国人144小时过境免签口岸北京首都国际机场车程2.5小时，大兴国际机场车程1.5小时，天津滨海国际机场车程2.5小时，北京西客站高铁40分钟、石家庄正定国际机场高铁30分钟。

Nestled against the majestic Taihang Mountains to the west and Baiyangdian, the Pearl of North China, to the east, Baoding rests on the fertile North China Plain, southwest of Beijing. It boasts convenient transportation, with a 2.5-hour drive from Beijing Capital International Airport, a 1.5-hour drive from Daxing International Airport, a 2.5-hour drive from Tianjin Binhai International Airport, a 40-minute high-speed train ride from Beijingxi Railway Station, and a 30-minute high-speed train ride from Shijiazhuang Zhengding International Airport.

保定是国家历史文化名城。这里诞生了汉昭烈帝刘备、宋太祖赵匡胤两位开国皇帝，也是首次将圆周率精算到小数第七位的数学家祖冲之、与莎士比亚齐名的戏剧家关汉卿的故乡。这里有世界文化遗产清西陵、全国唯一保存完好的清代省级衙署直隶总督署、全国十大名园之一的古莲花池、中国北方地区保留最为完整的清代徽派祠堂建筑群淮军公所、长城“内三关”中的紫荆关和倒马关，出土了举世闻名的金缕玉衣、长信宫灯。这里有国家级非物质文化遗产徐水舞狮、曲阳定瓷、易水古砚等。

Baoding is a renowned historical and cultural city. It is the birthplace of two founding emperors—Emperor Liu Bei of the Han Dynasty and Emperor Zhao Kuangyin of the Song Dynasty. It’s also home to the mathematician Zu Chongzhi, who first calculated pi to the seventh decimal place, and Guan Hanqing, playwright in the East on par with Shakespeare. Here, you can visit the World Cultural Heritage Site, Western Royal Tombs of the Qing Dynasty, the only well-preserved Qing Dynasty provincial government office, Zhili Governor-General’s Office, one of China’s top ten famous gardens, the Ancient Lotus Garden, the most complete preservation of Qing Dynasty Hui-style ancestral hall architecture in Northern China, Anhui Troop Agency Museum (Huai Army’s Office), the Zijing Pass and Daoma Pass, two of the Inner Three Passes of the Great Wall, and witness the excavation site of the world-famous Jade Suit Sewn with Gold Wire and the Gilt Bronze Human-Shaped Lamp. Baoding is also home to national intangible cultural heritages such as Lion Dance of Xushui District, Dingzhou Kiln Porcelain discovered in Quyang District, and Yishui Inkstone, etc.

保定是中国优秀旅游城市。这里聚天地之灵气，纳山川之精华，生态环境原始自然，奇观壮景瑰丽磅礴，野三坡神幽峻秀、白石山雄险奇幻、狼牙山峥嵘险峻、易水湖烟波浩渺、天生桥飞瀑流霞。中国古动物馆(保定自然博物馆)是亚洲最大的自然博物馆，展出了世界唯一的中华猛龙骨架标本、已知时代最早的有颌鱼类奇迹秀山鱼、世界极少数三维保存的天山哈密翼龙蛋、世界上脖子最长的恐龙中加马门溪龙复原骨架。

Baoding is a city abundant in tourist resources. Boasting gorgeous and magnificent mountains and rivers, it preserves many natural landscapes in their primitive state. Tourists can enjoy the peacefulness and secludedness in Yesanpo Geopark, the majestic and fantastic beauty in Baishi Mountain, the thrilling rocks in Langya Mountain, the wide expanse of mist-covered waters of Yishui Lake, and the floating colorful clouds over Tianshengqiao Waterfalls. Additionally, Paleozoological Museum of China (Baoding Natural History Museum), the largest natural museum in Asia, displays the only skeleton sample of Sinraptor in the world, the oldest Xiushanosteus mirabilis, rare 3D-preserved Hamipterus tianshanensis eggs, and the restored skeleton of Mamenchisaurus, the dinosaur with the longest neck in the world.

Baoding is also a city that wets the appetite. Here, you can find local delicacies such as Donkey Burgers, Pancake Slices Covered with Beef, Fish Flavored Shredded Beef, and Bai Yunzhang Steamed Stuffed Buns; traditional Baoding cuisines, such as Crisp Sauteed Fish Slices, Stir-Fried Diced Chicken with Peeled Prawns, Governor Li-favored Tofu and Deep-Dried Upper Leg of Pork in Starch, and Scrambled Eggs with Seasame Seed; special snacks, such as Sesame Seed Cakes, Sugar Coated Hawthorn fruit on a Stick, and pastries; as well as medicinal food originating in Anguo County, which integrates delicacy and the purpose of preserving health.
